Frequently asked questions

Find helpful details about our products, ingredients, and care.

What sets Southern Tallow Co. apart?

Our tallow cream uses a blend of organic grass-fed & finished beef tallow free from chemicals, hormones, antibiotics, and vaccines. Organic carrier oils, and the highest quality rigorously third-party tested essential oils. We render our tallow in house (that's never bleached or deodorized) to ensure the highest quality tallow that retains it's vitamins and nutrients to deliver the best product your skin deserves.

What is beef tallow and why should I use it on my skin?

Beef tallow is a natural fat rendered from cattle, specifically beef suet, which is rich in fatty acids and vitamins that closely match your skin's natural oils. Sourced from organic grass-fed & finished cattle, it's a time-honored ingredient that's been relied on for centuries. When incorporated into your skincare routine, beef tallow deeply nourishes and moisturizes, helping to restore your skin's barrier, reduce inflammation, and promote a healthy, radiant complexion without synthetic additives.

Is beef tallow suitable for all skin types?

Yes! Tallow closely mimics our skin's natural sebum (oil) production, making it compatible with all skin types, including sensitive, acne-prone, and baby skin.

Will beef tallow clog my pores?

No. Beef tallow is non-comedogenic. It's molecular structure closely mirrors your skin's natural sebum, so it absorbs easily without leaving a heavy residue that clogs pores. Unlike synthetic oils and moisturizers that sit on the surface, tallow works with your skin's chemistry to nourish without disrupting the delicate balance of your complexion.

Is beef tallow good for babies?

Beef tallow is nature's answer to diaper rash. It's rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K—the same nutrients your baby's delicate skin craves. Unlike synthetic diaper creams that use chemicals to combat your babies diaper rash, tallow mimics your baby's own skin oils, so it absorbs beautifully without sitting on top and trapping moisture, without any of the yucky chemicals. New moms love it because it's simple, effective, and comes straight from the earth. A little goes a long way, and most babies see relief in just a few days. It's what mothers used before modern chemistry, and it still works like magic.

Can I use beef tallow on my face?

Absolutely! Tallow is excellent for facial skin. It's rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, which help nourish and protect your skin.

How often should I apply beef tallow to my face & body?

As often as you want! Whether you use it as part of your nighttime skincare routine, multiple times daily, or whenever your skin needs nourishment, there's no limit to how frequently you can incorporate it into your routine. Many people find that regular application enhances their skin's natural moisture and resilience.

What gives your beef tallow it's golden color?

Our beef tallow's distinctive golden hue comes from two premium organic ingredients carefully selected for their skin-nourishing benefits. We blend organic golden jojoba oil, which retains more of its nutrient-rich properties compared to the clear jojoba oil commonly found in mass-market skincare products. This golden variety delivers superior hydration and skin conditioning. We further enhance our formula with organic rosehip oil, known for its vitamins and antioxidants that support healthy, radiant skin. The result is a luxurious tallow product that's as beautiful as it is effective.

Is your beef tallow sourced sustainably?

Yes! We source our beef tallow from organic family farms that are dedicated to raising high quality cattle that is only grass-fed and finished, and free from any chemicals, hormones, antibiotics, and vaccines.

What benefits does beef tallow have for my skin?

Rich in fat-soluble vitamins and essential fatty acids, it penetrates deeply to moisturize and restore your skin's natural barrier. Its powerful anti-aging properties help reduce fine lines and wrinkles while promoting a firmer, more youthful complexion. Beyond anti-aging, tallow works to minimize the appearance of scars and stretch marks, evens skin tone, and fades dark spots and blemishes for a clearer, more radiant look. For those struggling with acne, eczema, psoriasis, or rosacea, beef tallow offers gentle, natural relief—calming inflammation and supporting your skin's healing process without harsh chemicals or irritants.

What vitamins and nutrients does your tallow have that my skin needs?

Beef tallow is rich in fat-soluble vitamins including A, D, E, and K, which work together to nourish and protect your skin. Vitamin A supports cell turnover and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, while Vitamin D strengthens your skin barrier and promotes healing. Vitamin E acts as a powerful antioxidant, protecting against environmental damage and premature aging. Vitamin K helps reduce inflammation and supports circulation, contributing to a more even, radiant complexion. Together, these nutrients make beef tallow an effective natural moisturizer that deeply penetrates and revitalizes skin.
